Funeral Benefit Option
Get an extra £250 towards the cost of your funeral with the Funeral Benefit Option – a free, optional add-on to your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan.
What is the Funeral Benefit Option?
The Funeral Benefit Option is a free, optional feature that you can add to your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan. If you opt in, this means your life insurance payout will go directly to a Dignity Funeral Director, and they will make a contribution towards the cost of your funeral.
How does the Funeral Benefit Option work with my plan?
If you’re planning to use the payout from your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan to help cover the cost of your funeral, the Funeral Benefit Option is a great way to put some plans in place – for free.
If you've had your plan for at least one year and if a Dignity Funeral Director conducts your funeral, upon your death your payout will be sent directly to Dignity Funerals Limted to go towards your funeral costs. Plus, Dignity will then contribute £250 towards the cost of your funeral. Direct Cremations are excluded.
How much does a funeral cost in the UK?
The average funeral now costs around £4,000, and is estimated to reach £5,000 in 2028. We use the cost of both burials and cremations to calculate this figure - the exact cost will vary by region. Take a look at our Cost of Dying report for more. It's the longest-running study into funeral costs.
Who are Dignity?
Dignity are one of the UK’s largest funeral companies. With national coverage, they provide an expert service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

How can I get Funeral Benefit Option on my plan?
It’s easy to add the Funeral Benefit Option when you take out your plan. Simply tick the box when prompted online. If you take your plan out over the phone, one of our team will ask whether you’d like to add it on.
If you already have an existing plan, you can still add the Funeral Benefit Option at any time. Simply call our team on 0800 008 6060.
You can also add the Funeral Benefit Option when topping up your cover with a new plan but you can only have the Funeral Benefit Option on one plan.
How does it work when my loved ones make a claim?
When the time comes, it couldn't be simpler for your family. All they'll need to do is make a single call to Dignity, and the Dignity Funeral Director will help them through all the arrangements.
If you die as the result of an accident (or within 90 days of an accident because of your injuries) before you've had your plan for a year, the full payout will be paid to your loved ones, rather than Dignity. Dignity will still contribute £250 towards the final cost of your funeral if they conduct it.
Important to know
- You can only add Funeral Benefit Option to one plan. This includes over 50s life cover or any other funeral benefit options with any other provider, either in place now or in the future.
- This option cannot be used towards the cost of a Direct Cremation.
- If your funeral costs are more than the payout from your plan PLUS the extra £250, your loved ones would need to pay the difference to the Dignity Funeral Director.
