Our accessibility policy

We want to make sure that every person accessing our website finds it easy to use. Here you’ll discover how we make this happen.

What is accessibility?

At SunLife, we’re committed to making our customers’ lives easier. That’s why we made sure our website is simple and easy to access for everyone.

Language and design

Internet Crystal Mark awarded by the Plain English Campaign

Our website has been awarded the Internet Crystal Mark by the Plain English Campaign. It's a seal of excellence for websites that reach high standards of accessibility through clear language and design.

Our accessibility standards

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. These are set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). They outline how to make web content more accessible, especially for those with disabilities.

Our approach to design

To give you the best experience on our website, we've made sure it's adaptable to all types of technology. Whether you’re on your desktop, tablet or mobile phone, the layout will adapt to any device.

We use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to support assistive technology such as screen readers. This separates styling information from content, so the text can be read more easily.

We also use relative font sizes wherever possible. This allows you to change the text size in your web browser.

Our approach to links

All links on this website also contain extra information, which describes the link in more detail. This can be viewed by hovering a mouse (or other pointing device) over the link text.

Our approach to images

Where there are images on a web page, we use alternative text (or 'alt text')  to describe the image and its purpose. This can be read by screen readers.

Our approach to pop-up windows

The use of pop-up windows on this site is kept to a minimum. If a link opens a new browser window, this is explained in the title of the link.

Our approach to documents

The documents which are available to download on this website are Portable Document Format (PDF). If a link opens a PDF on this website, this is explained in the title of the link.

How to adjust your browser

You can adjust your browser to suit you.

If you have a computer mouse with a scroll wheel, press and hold the Ctrl key and move the scroll wheel up and down to zoom in and out.

To make adjustments using the keyboard, press and hold the Ctrl key and press either the plus (+) or minus (-) keys on the top of the keyboard.
